Linda Evangelista was born on May 10th,
1965, in St. Catharine's, Ontario, Canada. She was raised in a working
class, traditional Italian Catholic family and knew that she wanted
to pursue a modeling career by the age of 12. She was modeling with
a Toronto agency when she entered a Miss Teen Niagara Contest, although
she didn't win, she was spotted by a modeling scout.
One of Linda's first covers ever, before she cut
her hair, was in the April 1988 edition of Chatelaine, a Toronto
Magazine. Her career really began in New York, where she signed
with the Elite Model Agency. Before finally getting a job booking
with high profile fashion magazine Vogue, Linda then moved to Paris
to try to develop her career.
Linda's beautiful facial structure and striking
blue-green eyes have since appeared on practically every fashion
magazine cover on an international scale. She has also appeared
in a huge number of advertising campaigns including Alberta Ferretti,
American Express, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna
Karan, Yves Saint Laurent, and Christian Dior makeup.
Although Linda's natural hair color is brown.
She has become known for her ever changing hair and her boy-style
haircut. Having been practically every hair color possible, hairstylists
and colourists all over have said that she has the ability to make
any cut or colour work for her. She dyed her hair 17 times in four
years, blonde seven times (platinum to honey), red twice, brown
six times (golden brown to deep mahogany), and a combo thereof twice.
Like fellow supermodel Helena Christensen, who
appeared in a wicked music video for Chris Isaac, Linda Evangelista
has been in two George Michael videos: "Freedom 90", featuring
the other top supermodels, as well as the video for "Too Funky".
Following with the video trend, Linda has also appeared in Unzipped,
by Isaac Mizrahi, and Catwalk, a documentary produced by Christy
Turlington.
Linda Evangelista received a special Lifetime Achievement
Award at the 1997 VH1 Fashion and Music Awards. She has also been
named one of People magazine's 50 most Beautiful People in the World.
Due to her professionalism and commitment to a
job, often willing to play many roles in front of the camera, fashion
photographers love her ability to fit their perception and vision
into their photographs.
As for her love life, Linda Evangelista has been
romantically involved with Andre Rau, and was formerly engaged to
Twin Peaks actor Kyle MacLachlan. She was previously married to
Gerald Marie, the former head of Elite Paris.
Alongside her well-known reputation for being the
most hardworking and professional model of them all (at an age where
most models would have retired, she is still very much in demand),
there is the by now infamous quote which she reckons will follow
her to her grave, "we have a saying, Christy (Turlington) and
I, we don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day."
Linda uses her fame to help in causes that she
believes in, most notably raising awareness for breast cancer research.
Both her grandmother and a family friend suffered from the disease,
and Linda joined Bryan Adams in hosting a charity fundraiser in
aid of breast cancer research.
