Model Kathy Ireland was born in Santa Barbara,
California, on March 8th 1963. She grew up with her parents, two
sisters, a dog, some cats, chickens, frogs and ducks. Kathy was
shy, and a bit of a tomboy, who spent her summers hanging out at
the beach. Then one summer, when she was 17, an agent from Elite
approached her. Within weeks, she was signed with the agency in
New York. The day after her high school graduation, she was headed
for Rome.
Kathy Ireland first appeared on TV in the series
It's Your Move in 1984, and has since starred in numerous Television
shows and movies such as Suddenly Susan with Brooke Shields and
Backfire with Kristen Johnston.
In 1987, Ireland appeared on the cover of Vogue
Italia. That same year, she landed the lead in Alien from L.A.,
a low-budget film about a G-stringed woman who stumbles on the undiscovered
continent of Atlantis. The film bombed, but she was called the body
of the year.
In 1989 she was the Sports Illustrated's 25th Anniversary
Swimsuit Issue cover model. She has appeared on the cover of Sports
Illustrated three times, as well as other prestigious magazines
like Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Mademoiselle, Seventeen, Shape and Italian
Vogue.
Melrose Place fans will remember the leggy actress
in her 1992 four-episode stint as Brittany Maddocks, the evil but
gorgeous scam artist who was killed after trying to seduce Jake.
The following year proved to be one of the her
most active both personally and professionally. She posed for her
first Kathy Ireland calendar and released her first fitness video,
Kathy Ireland's Total Fitness Workout.
After doing her third SI swimsuit issue and getting
her face on Cheerios cereal boxes, Ireland achieved her most memorable
feat. In May 1994, she gave birth to her son Erik, with husband
Greg Olsen. Although she continued to sell calendars and memorabilia
off-the-walls, Ireland prefered to spend the majority of her time
with her son.
In 1995 marked the twelfth year Kathy had been
a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. Then in 1996, she helped Lays
launch their low-fat potato crisps and made what many considered
to be her comeback, in Howard Stern's Private Parts.
Her second fitness video, Kathy Ireland Body Specifics,
won the VSDA's Health and Fitness Video of the Year Award, and she
is now a contributing editor for FITNESS magazine.
Kathy and her husband had their second child, a
daughter named Lily, on October 27 1998. Then in March 2003 they
added the newest member to their family, another daughter named
Chloe.
Kathy Ireland turned full-time mommy and business
tycoon, is a devoted Christian who likes to read the Bible. Actually,
these days she is a Sunday School teacher, and likes to spend as
much time as possible with her family.
